Tania Rehupo Rule
Te Aupouri Weaver

I am a Māori artist specialising in traditional & contemporary Māori flax weaving, also known as Raranga.
This traditional art form was taught to me by my grandmother whom passed her knowledge down to me and other members of my family (whanau). We are taught how to harvest, prepare and weave flax through traditional methods, with the assistance of fundamental teachings of protocols and customs (Tikanga).

I draw inspiration for my art work from life experiences, Maori myths and legends, and nature. Raranga grounds me in the sense that it is a way expressing myself as a Māori woman and sharing the beauty of Raranga to the world.
